How much is a Rolex Submariner worth in 2026?

    8 min read · Published 12 April 2026 · by the 57 Jewellers team

The Rolex Submariner is the most recognisable watch on earth. It's the watch most clients walk into Hatton Garden asking about — usually with one of two questions: "how much should I pay?" or "how much is mine worth?" Both are surprisingly hard to answer in a single number, because the Submariner isn't one watch — it's around a dozen current and recent references, each trading at a different level.

This guide is the honest version of what we tell clients at the counter in 2026. No marketing fluff. No "investment grade" language. Just current market reality from a dealer that handles dozens of Submariners a month.

The current Submariner line-up at a glance

Rolex's current Submariner family launched in 2020 with the move to 41mm cases (up from 40mm). These are the references you'll see for sale today:

    • 124060 — Submariner (no date), steel, black dial. The purist's choice.
    • 126610LN — Submariner Date, steel, black dial. The most popular Rolex on earth.
    • 126610LV — "Starbucks", steel with green bezel and black dial.
    • 126618LN — Solid yellow gold, black dial.
    • 126618LB — "Bluesy", solid yellow gold, blue dial.
    • 126619LB — "Smurf" successor, solid white gold, blue dial.
    • 126613LN / 126613LB — Two-tone steel & yellow gold, black or blue dial.

What each reference is actually trading at in 2026

The numbers below are indicative dealer prices — full set, recent year, in collector condition. Prices move weekly, so always treat these as a starting point and confirm on WhatsApp before committing.

    Steel Submariner 124060 (no date)

UK retail: ~£8,200. Pre-owned market: £7,500–£9,500. The 124060 is the only Submariner that periodically trades below retail. If you want a Submariner and don't care about the date window, this is the value play in 2026.

    Steel Submariner Date 126610LN

UK retail: ~£9,400. Pre-owned market: £11,500–£14,000. Still the benchmark sports watch. Premiums softened from their 2022 highs but the 126610LN has remained one of the most liquid watches in the world.

    "Starbucks" 126610LV

UK retail: ~£10,150. Pre-owned market: £14,500–£17,500. The green bezel keeps demand high. Sold examples ship the same week.

    "Bluesy" 126618LB (yellow gold)

UK retail: ~£36,400. Pre-owned market: £36,000–£42,000. A modern grail. The blue dial / yellow gold combination is endlessly photogenic and the production numbers are tight.

    White gold "Smurf" successor 126619LB

UK retail: ~£38,500. Pre-owned market: £39,000–£45,000. White gold on a steel-look case is a quiet flex — heavier than it looks, and one of the most collectible current Subs.

    Why pre-owned trades above retail

Rolex makes around one million watches a year. They allocate to authorised dealers (ADs). Demand for steel sports models — especially the Submariner — far exceeds that allocation. Most ADs operate quiet waitlists; getting a 126610LN at retail typically takes 12–36 months and an existing purchase history. Clients who want one now buy from the secondary market, which is what creates the premium.

When Rolex's annual production catches up to demand (or interest rates change buyer behaviour), pre-owned prices soften. That happened in 2022–2023. It will happen again. But the structural shortage of new steel Submariners means the secondary market rarely collapses below retail for more than a few months.

What affects an individual Submariner's value

    1. Full set or watch-only. Original box, papers, hangtags and warranty card add 5–15% — sometimes more on hot references.
    2. Year of production. Newer years command a premium because they have more warranty remaining and unpolished case lines.
    3. Condition. A polished case loses sharpness on the lugs that can't be restored. Unpolished examples carry a clear premium.
    4. Service history. A recent Rolex service is a positive; an unknown service history is a discount.
    5. Bracelet stretch. Older Submariners can suffer link-pin stretch — replaceable but a price factor.

Selling a Submariner: what to expect

If you're selling, a dealer's offer will sit below the secondary market price you see on Chrono24 or eBay because the dealer carries the risk of sale, the cost of authentication, and the warranty they provide to the next buyer. Expect roughly 80–90% of the prevailing pre-owned market for a clean, full-set Submariner. We typically quote as soon as we can on WhatsApp — send photos of the dial, caseback, bracelet, papers and serial.

The honest bottom line for 2026

The Submariner remains the safest watch purchase in luxury. If you want one for £8,000, the 124060 still exists at retail. If you want the iconic 126610LN now, you'll pay roughly £2,000–£4,000 above retail to skip the AD waitlist — and most owners are happy with that trade. Gold Submariners are no longer cheap, but they remain the cleanest single-watch statement in the Rolex catalogue.

    Frequently asked

What's the cheapest current Rolex Submariner?

The no-date Submariner reference 124060 is the entry point — UK retail is around £8,200. Pre-owned examples from a trusted dealer typically sit between £7,500 and £9,500 depending on year, condition and whether full set.

Is the Submariner a good investment?

Historically, steel Submariners have held value better than almost any other watch. They're not a guaranteed investment — markets move — but a 124060 or 126610LN bought sensibly from a reputable dealer rarely loses money over a five-year horizon.

Should I buy new at retail or pre-owned?

Steel Submariners have multi-year waiting lists at authorised dealers. Most clients who want one now buy pre-owned at a small premium over retail — usually still cheaper than waiting two years and buying at a future retail price.

How can I tell a Submariner is genuine?

See our companion guide 'How to spot a fake Rolex' for the full checklist. The short version: weight, bracelet engraving, rehaut etching, cyclops magnification and the movement under the caseback all have to match Rolex's reference specs exactly.
