Lab-grown diamonds in London

A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond — pure crystallised carbon — grown in a laboratory using either HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) or CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition). The chemical, physical and optical properties are identical to a mined diamond. It is not cubic zirconia or moissanite; it is diamond.

Independent labs (IGI, GIA) grade lab-grown diamonds on the same 4Cs scale: cut, colour, clarity and carat.

Sparkle & appearance: identical. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye.

Hardness & durability: identical — both are 10/10 on the Mohs scale.

Price: lab-grown is 60–80% cheaper for equivalent quality.

Resale value: lab-grown has weaker resale. Natural diamonds hold value better long-term.

Ethics: lab-grown sidesteps mining concerns entirely.

If maximum size for your budget matters more than long-term resale, lab-grown is the clear choice. For an heirloom intended to be sold or passed on with value, natural still wins.
